A dynamic team of young professionals
Masaō is a Lecturer at the University of the West Indies and has recently completed his doctorate at the University of Cambridge in Geography (Climate change implications for the wind energy sector). This follows 6 years at York University in Toronto where he gained his Undergraduate and Masters Degrees in Environmental Sciences and Geography (Climate Science) respectively. With two academic publications (pending submissions as well), Masaō is an experienced young academic and professional. His new Lectureship appointment to lead the Alternative Energy Group at the University of the West Indies, Mona (Jamaica), demonstrates his commitment to research within the Caribbean region.
Dr. Ariel Thomas is a post-doctoral research associate with a Geophysics and Earth Sciences background. Underpinning his scientific career is a genuine fascination with Earth systems and a passion for engaging a broad audience to share knowledge of the natural world.
Abigail Charles has an academic background in construction, with a first degree in Architecture from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR. She completed a MSc in Project Management at the University of the West Indies. Her interests include climate change and the impacts of climate events on disaster risk management policy.
Michael de Souza has an academic background in the field of Applied Science and Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University in Kingston, ON. His work experience includes designing and implementing PV-solar systems for homes and small businesses, working as a project coordinator and site supervisor as well as a background in marketing and brand awareness.
Collaborative Freelance Designer with 4 years of experience in areas of graphic, product and interior design. I am passionate about many forms of Art and Design and I take on a range of projects in both fields. I graduated from the University of The West Indies with a BA in Visual Arts and I currently work with Dada and Projects, an NGO geared towards facilitating the installation of Public Art in Trinidad and Tobago.
Sasha Harrinanan honed her strong writing and broadcast skills during her time as a journalist, working in print, television and radio. She is known for her upbeat personality and excellent inter-personal skills, able to connect with a wide variety of people and communicate their story to others in an engaging manner. Sasha’s love of nature, with dogs holding a very special place in her heart, means she is always ready to support efforts to increase sustainable use of the environment and the protection of natural habitats. Sasha has a BA in Media and Communication, Caribbean School of Media and Communication University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica, 2003.
Mikayla is a final year student at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine campus. She is pursing a BA in Geography as well as a BA in Communication Studies (double major). She is passionate about the field of geography, particularly climate change adaptation within Small Island Developing States. Mikayla’s interests are vast and include writing, publications, sustainable development, climate change and community outreach.
Ariel Deonanan is a final year student at the University of the West Indies Global Campus. With a background in studying French, Spanish and Tourism, she is pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree in International Management. She has a passion for learning about business, languages and music through research and various art forms. In her spare time, she enjoys singing, playing the violin, drawing and learning new languages.
Kirsty Williams is a tech geek pursuing a BSc in Computer Science at the Goldsmiths University of London. She is passionate about all things Web Development, and Game Development; both of which she codes for fun. She hopes to one day revolutionize the web, ensuring that no website is inaccessible to people with disabilities.
Leah Ragbir, an adept Project Management professional, specializes in climate change adaptation. As an Assistant Project Manager at IAMovement, she implements innovative green initiatives with Vetiver grass. Leah's dedication to sustainability fuels her quest for positive environmental transformation, inspiring and raising awareness. Alongside work, she finds inspiration in cultural exploration, embracing art, music, and film as catalysts for communication and positive change.
Charlotte Tom is an ESG/ Sustainability consultant and Climate Change activist from Trinidad and Tobago. She completed her BA in Environmental Studies with a minor in Cultural Anthropology and completed her MSc in Natural Resources and Environmental Management, specializing in Climate Change. She works to help Caribbean governments mainstream climate action and social equity into policies to create a more resilient region.
Brittanny Perch has an academic background in the environmental field with a B.Sc in Environmental Science and Sustainable Technology. She is passionate about environmental sustainability and is driven to explore innovative ideas and sustainable solutions. Brittanny has a keen interest in environmental protection, renewable energy, sustainable development, and climate change. She aspires to further her studies in pursuit of her Master’s.
Vaidika is a recent graduate of the University of West Indies, St. Augustine. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry. Passionate about environmental sustainability and renewable energies, she has a keen interest in the development of a sustainable future for developing nations. Her interests include reading, research and writing.
Kathryn is a RE Project Development Support Intern with the CDF and currently serves as an Island Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago for Island Innovation. She holds a BSc and MSc in Geology from Imperial College London and The University of Melbourne and a MSc in Energy and Resource Management with a specialisation in RE and EE Policy from University College London. Kathryn brings with her over 8 years of experience in the oil and gas and the renewable energy sectors in Trinidad and internationally. She aspires to continue contributing her knowledge and experience to various initiatives promoting the sustainable use of the Caribbean region’s energy resources.
Gianna Richards is a student at St. Augustine Girls High School studying business. She is passionate about writing, management, and the environment.
Afia Boney is a 2nd year PhD student at Okayama University in Japan. Her research interests lie in crack width monitoring, photogrammetry and disaster management. In her free time, she enjoys listening to podcasts, reading books, building puzzles and studying Japanese.
Le Shaun Alexis is a recent graduate with a Diploma in Forestry and also holds a BSc. International Relations. She currently works as an English tutor. She is passionate about writing, reading, research, education and public awareness. She aspires to do more in the fields of environmental science, natural resource management and climate change.
Karishma Sookhram is a Civil Engineering student at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. She loves creating art and is very interested in architectural design and music.
Steffani Singh is an MSc in Biology student at The University of British Columbia. She specializes in conservation science and is currently studying raptors in burned landscapes throughout the Okanagan. Steffani is passionate about Jamaica's biodiversity and aims to promote research that highlights Caribbean endemics.
Amanda Alexander is a proud graduate of the BSc Geography Special degree from the UWI St. Augustine campus. She is passionate about fluvial hydrology and water management systems in SIDS. Her interests include hiking, and traveling.
Chelsea Dookie is an Attorney at law with a Masters of Law and who is currently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration. She is passionate about legal education and human rights.
Rebecca is an Economist with an interest in grassroots development. Holding a Phd in Economics she works in the private sector running a small microfinance company which supports microentrepreneurs. She is passionate about youth and gender issues as well as immigrant welfare.
